Tree Care, 2026
Tree Care Hyde Park is a public art project by Hyde Park-based artist Jane D. Marsching that celebrates and expands the community of care between urban trees and their human neighbors. Through community gatherings, workshops, plant-dyed textile tree tags, and a mobile printing and planting press, the project invites residents to slow down, connect with the trees around them, and imagine how trees care for us and how we can care for them in return.
Working with local community organizations, Tree Care Hyde Park will tag 1,000 trees throughout the neighborhood with brightly colored, hand-printed textile tags featuring invitations to get to know our tree neighbors. Each tag connects to a project website with information about the tree, the benefits trees provide, and the organizations working to protect and preserve Hyde Park’s urban forest. Through these temporary public artworks and community events, the project aims to foster curiosity, connection, and a culture of care for the trees that share our neighborhood.

Jane D. Marsching
Interdisciplinary artist, Jane D. Marsching (1968) makes opportunities to imagine a more just and healthy future, to commune with the beings that we live with, and to catalyze an urgent response to the ecological story of our time through collaborative research-based practices. Exhibitions include: Fruitlands Museum, Harvard, MA; Kilroy Metal Ceiling, Brooklyn; Galerie Lucy Mackintosh, Lausanne, Switzerland; Tierra des Explorades, Buenos Aires; and MassMoCA. She has received grants from Creative Capital and Artadia, among others. She has participated in and founded various collectives that engage creative practices at the intersection of social issues, ecology, and activism: including Platform2: Art and Activism (2009-2012), an experimental forum about creative practices at the intersection of social issues and Plotform (2013-2020 with Andi Sutton), which activated engagement in our local communities around climate activism, citizen science, and water ecologies. At Massachusetts College of Art and Design she is Professor and Sustainability Fellow.
