Job Overview
We are seeking reliable and skilled individuals to join the on-site installation crew for a temporary art installation at the Boston Nature Center in collaboration with internationally recognized artist Laura Lima. This project involves the construction and installation of organic sculptures that engage with the natural environment and encourage interaction with flora and fauna.
Support crew members will work closely with the artist, fabricators, and arborists to bring the installation to life using a range of techniques, including light carpentry, weaving, sewing, gluing, assemblage, and knot tying. This is an on-site, outdoor position requiring physical activity and a collaborative mindset.
Responsibilities
● Assist with the construction and installation of organic sculptures
● Work with natural materials under the guidance of the artist
● Safely use hand tools and basic carpentry equipment
● Maintain clear communication and collaborate effectively with the team
● Adapt to outdoor working conditions and variable weather
● Work respectfully and professionally in an open environment where Mass Audubon patrons and visitors may be present during installation
Applicable Skills
(Not required but may be beneficial)
● Light carpentry or fabrication experience
● Art installation or handling experience
● Knot tying and weaving experience
● Arborist, landscaping, farming, or ecology experience
● Fiber, sewing, or crafting background
● Familiarity with tool safety and basic construction techniques
● Comfort working outdoors in natural environments
● Ability to follow artistic direction and contribute to a team-based process
Compensation
$20/hour, lunch included each workday
