Neon Path
Start at Miracle of Science, a local favorite where Patrick Martinez’s neon piece Cost of Living glows in the window, contrasting with the bar’s scientific theme and chalkboard menu.
Head south on Massachusetts Ave for just a few steps. Right next door at Middlesex, another of Martinez’s neon works brightens the street. Its words stand out against the nightlife energy of the venue.
From here: Walk about 2 minutes to Central Square Station and take the Red Line inbound toward Boston. Get off at Park Street Station (about 6 stops). From there, transfer to the Green Line outbound toward Copley (about 2 stops). Outside the historic Old South Church in Copley Square, look up to spot Martinez’s neon message shining above the Boylston Street entrance. The words cut across centuries of stone and stained glass.
Next, walk to Copley Station and take the Green Line inbound to Government Center Station (about 4 stops). Then walk 5 minutes down Court Street and Franklin Street. End your tour at Breaktime, a nonprofit café and community hub. Martinez’s neon sign shines in the window here, echoing the organization’s mission to empower young adults experiencing housing insecurity.
