The Boston Public Art Triennial is a citywide exhibition with installations in neighborhoods from East Boston to Mattapan, and there are plenty of places to stay near the action. TRANSPORTATION
Getting Around Boston
Public art meets public access.
The Boston Public Art Triennial spans neighborhoods across the city – from East Boston to Mattapan, the Waterfront to Roxbury – and we want you to experience it all.
Most project sites are located near major MBTA subway or bus stops, and many are walkable from downtown or connected by bike routes.
Take the T to easily reach neighborhoods like Dorchester, Roxbury, and Copley Square. Planning to drive? Several locations are accessible via I-93 and the Mass Pike, with nearby public parking lots and garages.
Prefer to bike? We’re proud to partner with Bluebikes, Boston’s public bike share system. Download the Bluebikes app to find the nearest docking station and pedal your way through the city’s open-air gallery. A map to navigate to all sites will be available by May 22.

Start your journey at the Triennial Hub at Lyrik, our temporary visitor center, located at 400 Newbury Street. This is your go-to spot for maps, schedules, artist info, and real-time support from our team.

We believe public art should be accessible to all. That’s why the Boston Public Art Triennial is committed to creating inclusive, welcoming experiences across every site and program.
Many of our locations are wheelchair accessible and reachable by public transit. All sites will include audio guides and interpretive materials in multiple languages. Our Public Art Ambassadors will be on-site during Opening Week and Triennial programs to offer directions, support, and answer questions.

What is the Boston Public Art Triennial?
The Boston Public Art Triennial is a citywide exhibition of temporary, site-specific public art installations and programs presented every three years. The inaugural edition will take place from May to October 2025, bringing together local, national, and international artists to transform Boston’s public spaces into a vibrant, open-air museum.
Where will the Triennial take place?
The 2025 Triennial will be hosted across multiple neighborhoods in Boston. Using a hub and spoke model, the event will feature:
+A central cluster of artworks in downtown Boston including our visitor hub.
+Projects extending outward along transit lines into neighborhoods across the city.
+Final locations and a full map will be available on our website closer to the opening.
+Neighborhoods hosting art are: Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, East Boston.
When is the Triennial?
The first Boston Public Art Triennial will take place May–October 2025, with future editions planned every three years (next in 2028).
Is the Triennial free to attend?
Yes! The Triennial is free and open to all. We believe art should be accessible to everyone and are committed to making this event welcoming to all Boston residents and visitors.
Is the Triennial family-friendly?
Absolutely. We welcome visitors of all ages and encourage families to explore together. Programs, events, and some artworks will be designed specifically with younger audiences and families in mind. Who are the Triennial’s partners?
The 2025 Triennial is presented in partnership with: The City of Boston, serving as a key thought partner in this first-ever event for the city.
The MassArt Art Museum (MAAM), co-curating one of the 15 major commissions.
In addition, during the Triennial season, Boston will come alive with temporary and permanent public art projects presented by leading local museums and institutions, including:
